IT Assets Disposal

IT Assets Disposal is the process of properly disposing of or decommissioning IT equipment at the end of its lifecycle.  This ensures that sensitive data is securely erased and that electronic waste is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.  Two common methods used during IT asset disposal are data erasure and degaussing of hard drives.

Data Erasure: Data erasure is the process of securely removing all data from storage devices such as hard drives, solid-state drives (SSDs), and other media. It ensures that the data cannot be recovered or accessed by unauthorized individuals. Data erasure methods employ advanced algorithms to overwrite the entire storage media with random or specific patterns of data. This process effectively removes all traces of data and renders it unrecoverable.

Degauss Hardisk: Degaussing is a technique used to destroy data stored on magnetic media, primarily hard disk drives (HDDs) and magnetic tapes. It involves exposing the media to a powerful magnetic field, which disrupts the magnetic domains on the storage media, effectively erasing the data. Degaussing renders the media unreadable and eliminates the possibility of data recovery.
