Meanwhile, Azhar added, motions have also been filed in support of the prime minister.
He said these motions would be reviewed first before adding them to Parliament’s order paper, with the house due to reconvene on November 2 to debate Budget 2021.
“There are many more important motions we have received, apart from focusing on the upcoming tabling of the Budget 2021.
“We will arrange them according to government business foremost,” he was quoted saying by Utusan Malaysia.
Last week, five lawmakers from Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang party filed their own motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin, saying he had lost the confidence of the house.
Shortly thereafter, 11 Amanah lawmakers also filed their own motion against Muhyiddin, on the grounds that the house had lost faith in the prime minister’s ability to lead the country.
Earlier this year, Dr Mahathir’s bid to table a vote of no-confidence was rejected twice because the motions were placed at the end of the order paper.
The number of motions against Muhyiddin further adds pressure on him and his position as prime minister.
He is facing challenges from his ally Umno as well as from PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who has stated he has a parliamentary majority and intends to form a new government.
However, Azhar also said that they had received confidence motions from government backbenchers backing the prime minister.
“We received confidence motions in favour the prime minister from the government side, but we will wait until more important motions from the respective ministries are included in the order paper,” he said.
Standing Order 15 (1) and (2) states that government business shall take precedence over private members’ business, and that government business shall be set down as the government sees fit.
Azhar had earlier explained that only the government has the power to allow any private member’s bill to be debated, which included a motion of no confidence against the prime minister.
However, the Standing Order 14(2) states that a motion can be moved up in the list if a minister stands up and moves the house to “decide to proceed to any particular business out of the regular order”.
The upcoming parliamentary sitting is for a period of 27 days from November 2 to December 15.
